Richard Jobson → German.

Richard Jobson was a seventeenth-century English explorer.

Jobson's most noted work is The Golden Trade in which he describes his voyages to Ethiopia and the Gambia River during 1620-1621. It is also the earliest known European work that mentions the game of mancala (probably Oware). In January 1621, he reached the Barrakunda Falls at a distance of about 500 km from the Atlantic Ocean. The following month he visited the Tenda further east. In May, he left Gambia, but in 1624 he led another expedition to the Gambia River, which was unsuccessful. Later he published the book The Discovery of the Country of King Solomon.
