Biwele
Inventor: Luca Cerrato,
2008
Variant of Bechi
Ranks: Two
Sowing: Multiple laps
Region: Italy

Biwele was designed by Lucca Cerrato (Italy), a well-known Bao player, in 2008. The game is a variant of Bechi.

Rules

The game is played on a board, which consists of two rows, each one with six holes.

Initially every hole contains four seeds. In addition, there is a white cube in the fourth hole of the southern row and a black cube in the fourth hole of the northern row.

Initial Position

White starts.

On the start of his turn a player may only lift the contents of a hole adjacent to his cube. If he chooses the hole to its left, the move is made clockwise, if he takes the hole to its right, the move is counterclockwise. The hole must contain at least two seeds. The contents are distributed one by one into the succeeding holes around the board.

If the last seed falls into an occupied hole, its contents are distributed in another lap.

If a cube is also distributed, it must be sown first. If, in a lap, both cubes are distributed, the own cube must be sown first, then the opponent’s one.

The move ends when the last seed is dropped into an empty hole.

If a lap passes the hole of the opponent’s cube, a seed is captured from the hole, where the lap ends. If there is still at least one seed in that hole after the capture, then the move continues. It is possible to capture several times.

If the lap ends in the hole of the opponent’s cube, two seeds are captured, if possible.

If, at the end of the move, the opponent's cube is in your own row, you capture a seed from the first non-empty hole of the opponent to your right.

The game ends when a player has captured 25 seeds or when a player cannot move.

It is won by the player who captured most seeds.
